St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital, located in Spring Hill in central Brisbane, is the largest private hospital in Australia whose patients cannot benefit from having fully Medicare funded Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans. Presently, the majority of patients attending our hospital are unable to access a Medicare rebate for their MRI imaging, resulting in significant out of pocket costs for our patients.
These costs often come at a time when patients are undergoing medical treatment and may be least able to afford it. Receiving Medicare Funding for our MRI scanner at St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital would allow us to remove many of these out of pocket costs for our patients.
While normally not readily available, the Federal Government recently announced that applications for new Medicare-eligible MRI licences will be considered by the Federal Health Minister in November 2018.
We need your help!
To support our patients, we are in the process of applying to Government to secure one of these licences for our MRI machine.
An important part of this application process is community support. We are asking our patients, their families and friends and the broader community to support our application to Government.
