Body Composition Imaging

What Is Body Composition Imaging?

Our low radiation dose DEXA scanner allows you to determine your exact ratio of muscle, fat and bone through Body Composition Imaging. Body Composition Imaging uses very low energy x-rays to assess the tissue make-up the body. Body Composition imaging can determine mass values of fat, lean muscle and bone mass of the entire body with very high accuracy.

Booking Your Appointment and Preparation

Body Composition Imaging requires no special preparation.

What To Expect On The Day

Before your Body Composition Imaging examination, you may be asked to change into a gown to prevent specific clothing giving a false reading on your scan. The Radiographer completing the scan will acquire some medical history including your current height and weight.

During the examination, you will be asked to lie down on a large table on which the imaging will be obtained.

A Body Composition Imaging Scan will typically take no more than 30 minutes with approximately 5 minutes to acquire the imaging.
