Spring Hill

Bulk Billed MRI scans from 5 April 2019

A full Medicare Magnetic Resonance Imaging licence has been awarded by the Federal Government to St Andrew’s Medical Imaging (SAMI) in Spring Hill, Brisbane. After two and half years of campaigning for this much needed financial relief for patients, SAMI is pleased to announce that they will bulk bill all Medicare eligible MRI scans from 5 April 2019.

MRI costs alleviated for Inpatients and Outpatients of St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital(SAWMH).

Until now, the state-of-the art department has been under utilised and a costly service to offer. With the approval of the MRI licence  St Andrew’s Medical Imaging (SAMI) is committed to bulk bill all Medicare funded MRI scans. An MRI funded scanner at SAMI is fantastic news for both the patients of St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital and Brisbane residents as a whole.

SAMI will now be in the position to provide patients with highly affordable access to superior quality MRI scans. This will particularly benefit inpatients of St Andrew’s who will no longer face expensive out of pocket costs when urgent MRI scans are necessary during their stay.

SAMI is one of five clinics in the UnitingCare Medical Imaging (UCMI) radiology group, first established at the Wesley Hospital in 2008. In late 2016 following a 9 million dollar overhaul of the previous radiology provider at SAWMH, SAMI opened its doors to the community. Investment in superior diagnostic software technology and a 2 million dollar MRI machine in combination with the expertise Brisbane’s leading radiologists enables SAMI to offer one of the most advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging services in South East Queensland.

Government funding will now enable SAMI to offer one of Brisbane’s premium MRI services in inner city Brisbane without the burden of additional costs to the patient.
