Clinical Research

Untitingcare Medical Imaging has a strong focus and commitment to advancing patient care through clinical research.  Our Radiologists are involved in a wide range of research studies and collaborate with clinical and academic sites across Australia.

Broadly speaking, UCMI’s research projects fit under three umbrellas; Interventional Radiology, prostate cancer, and cardiac-thoracic radiology. Key areas of research interest and expertise of our Radiologists include:

  • Heart disease
  • Novel cardiac imaging techniques
  • Occupational lung diseases
  • Prostate health and cancer
  • SIRTS for liver cancer
  • Osteoarthristis
  • Non-surgical approaches to treating varicose vein

The expanse of research projects has widened in recent years with increased dedication by our staff to research; there are currently 18 projects underway, with more planned. These research projects vary from internally-run research studies to externally-run international clinical trials.  Unitingcare Medical Imaging is committed to long-term collaboration with researchers outside of UCMI and this is reflected in our involvement with research led by local medical specialists and cancer centres, as well as universities and government. Our major current research projects are detailed below.

Transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis: a non-invasive multimodality approach using transthoracic echocardiogram, 99m-Tc-labelled phosphate bone scanning and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging.
